About Me

Starlight Masquerade is a small American business. All costumes are made by me in my sewing studio in beautiful Northwest Oregon.  I am a happily married wife and mother who likes to make beautiful costumes. I studied Costume History and Design at University of Oregon, and have accumulated years of historical art study. I have 22 years of experience creating and sewing glamorous unique costumes. I look forward to making one for you!

Return Policy

These costumes are very labor intensive and expensive to make. I create what you order, so be very sure when you press that "buy" button.

If something is wrong with the costume, I will do everything in my power to make it right. I want all my customers to be happy. However, it is your responsibility to examine the photos, ask questions, choose wisely, and send me the correct measurements. If the mistake is yours, there will be an extra charge to alter the costume. If the mistake is mine, then I will take care of it.

Ready-to-Wear costumes must be paid in full. I do not accept partial payments, deposits or layaways on costumes that are available for immediate shipment.

Custom Orders require a 50% deposit, with full payment complete before shipping.

Payment can be made via credit card with PayPal, Money Order or Personal Check.

If you prefer to pay with Money Order or Personal Check, send me an email and arrangements will be made. Your costume will be placed in the queue or in the mail when payment arrives.

Shipping and Insurance fees are determined by your location. I charge the actual price only, there are no "handling" charges.

International Customers, please be aware of any customs charges that may arise, as I do not lie on customs forms.

All shipping is done via USPS Priority Service.

Each costume is packed carefully in a sturdy shipping box, with appropriate protection for delicate items.  The boxes are lined with a large plastic bag to guard against accidental rain damage in transit.

All shipments are fully insured for the protection of us both.

If you are local to the Portland, Oregon area, I am happy to arrange a personal delivery in a mutually decided public place.

After Payment is Made

A simple contract will be emailed to you that will protect you as a consumer and me as a vendor. It will detail exactly what you ordered and when it will be delivered.  It will also entail all the legal fine print. Please read this carefully as it is a binding contract.  It will be very clear what we expect from each other.

Your costume is placed in my queue and I create it when your turn comes.

This is a transparent transaction and the lines of communication are ALWAYS open. I am pleased to answer all questions, give you my opinion, alleviate anxiety, give status updates, explain anything in further detail, or just chat about costuming. I look forward to it!

I love weddings! Renaissance, Pirate, Fantasy, I am happy to help make that day a special one. Bear in mind that garb for wedding parties will take infinitely more time to create... I am only one person! Please contact me ahead of time to get a firm delivery date.  A good estimate would be two weeks per costume beyond my queue time. All costumes must be completed at least FOUR WEEKS before the big day, as I do not cut weddings close.

Personal Fabrics

I'm sorry, I only make gowns with fabric I know and love. Sometimes what the customer thinks is wonderful fabric is a nightmare for the seamstress to work with. These gowns are very tricky and complicated to create, and I want them to be as gorgeous and perfect as possible.

Historical Accuracy

I strive to create an authentic silhouette, but some of the inner workings of the designs are not "period," such as using modern sewing machines. I don't shear my own sheep, hand sew seams, hammer my own hooks or embroider by hand. I use a mix of historical and modern sewing techniques and patterns.

I am inspired by 16th and 18th century portraits and have done extensive research on historical accuracy. My goal is to have the gowns look completely authentic on the outside, while remaining easy for you to wear and convenient for me to create.

Bear in mind that these are indeed costumes, intended for theatrical purposes.
